4 Things to Expect from an HVAC Maintenance Visit

Regular maintenance is an essential part of life after you’ve gotten an air conditioning or furnace installation. While there are basic checks you can perform yourself throughout the year, such as making sure filters are clean and debris is away from your AC unit, you’ll need to hire a professional HVAC service specialist at least twice a year to inspect the system thoroughly. During the inspection of either your heating or cooling system, the specialist will take steps to ensure the system runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, so you experience comfortable temperatures inside your home no matter what the weather is like outside.

Have a scheduled visit with heating and cooling services specialist? Here’s what to expect from the visit:

  • Safety checks

Before performing any inspection on your HVAC system, the specialist will turn the unit, and any gas lines running to it, off for general safety. The technician will then take a look at the external and internal parts to see if there’s any rust, pits or cracks that could affect the safety of your family. These issues can allow carbon monoxide into your home, which can be deadly, so the technician will inspect the entire system thoroughly and even check your carbon monoxide detector, if you have one, to verify if dangerous levels of this gas are in your home.

  • Cleaning

You’ll no doubt take care of some cleaning tasks throughout the year, but a specialist with the right tools is needed to clean many of the internal components of your HVAC system.

  • Repair

As with any machine, there are certain parts, like hoses and belts, that will wear down over time. If the HVAC specialist notices these parts are worn, he or she will replace them immediately. Larger repairs require more time, parts, and tools. If the technician notices a big repair problem during the maintenance visit, you will be informed of the issue and be given a description of it, along with a written estimate of the cost required to fix it. Another visit may be scheduled to perform the repair.

  • Answers to questions

You’ll have questions, and that’s great! Your technician should be able to answer any issues you might have, even if they seem trivial. If you’re not sure you’ll remember everything, write down some questions before the visit and present the list to the specialist after he or she is done with the maintenance inspection.
